As I had mentioned on my earlier post , I consigned my kids toys and overgrown clothes at Three Bags Full Consignment Sale. Well the result is rather disappointing. I did expect to get a low return because unlike the previous sale:
- I didn’t volunteer. I was so busy in re-decorating our house that volunteering for the sale is the last thing in my mind
- This was probably the smallest number of items that I consigned. My typical loads in the past was 2 large bins of clothes, 1 large bin of toys, and a few pieces of big ticket items (e.g. stroller, outdoor toys, etc). This time I only brought in 1 large bin of clothes, 1 large bin of toys, and 1 big Elmo train set that was too big for the bin

I didn’t sell the entire clothes as a set. I had a few Gymboree shirts in size 2T that I wanted to experiment by not pairing it with pants like I normally did. Gymboree is the number one selling item at consignment sales, so I wanted to see if it still sells without selling it as a set. Well…let’s just say I was wrong.
So here’s the result. I typically scored 75% sell through, which is good but not great. This time only sold 51% of my items.

The three things I mentioned above definitely played a big part on this disappointing result. However I wonder if selling on Facebook wall has become so popular that people are more leaning towards that venue. Let’s face it, you make more (no more consignment fees and you keep all the profit), Porch Pick Up has made it very convenient, and the admin police the page and will weed no-show people. Will I continue to sell at consignment sale? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…
