Sometimes I wonder why it’s so hard to gather moms and have some girls night out or girls get together kind of thing. Seriously! Most of my friends are so attached to their kids that it’s extremely hard to get them out of the house without the kids. When we do have get together, why does it always involve eating out in a fancy restaurant or hip bar that involve overpriced alcohol? One day when I told my hubby that I have a girls night out plan, he said girls can never have a good time without spending at least $20. He said guys can just play sports, pack their own sandwiches and they would be a happy camper. I thought to myself, he might be right. There isn’t a single girls get together event that I’ve been to or my friends had told me that didn’t cost any money, such as:
- Shopping
- Potluck Party (doesn’t cost a lot, but still more than the cost of a sandwich)
- Dining out
- Wine tasting
- Going to a bar
- Scrap booking workshop at a local scrapbook stores. I’m not a scrapbook-er, but my friend told me it costs typically $25 which includes food and drinks, however you will also be intrigue to buy some more supplies during that session.
As you can see, I have a problem trying to come up with ideas of low/no cost girls get together. So I asked my blogger friends to give me some suggestions. Cristelle from belovedmama and Hanan from Lilac City Momma shared some ideas:
Bunco Group
Supposedly this is some kind of card game. I’m not really sure how to play but think of it as poker for girls.
Game Night
Love this idea! Actually every time we have get together with our family, we always end up playing board game. So this is definitely something I’d like to arrange in the near future.
Movie Night or Favorite TV Show Night
Wear pajama, get popcorn and wine ready, and watch movie or favorite tv show sounds a great idea to me.
Taco Tuesday
Everyone brings a taco topping… hmmmm… yummy!!
Jacuzzi Night
Gather at a friend’s house who owns the jacuzzi and get ready for some chit chat and laughter. BYOB (bring your own beverage) and snacks are optional.
Book Club
Another wonderful idea. Pick a book and gather for some book chatter.
Summer Concert
During Summer, there are many local parks that offer free Summer concert. You can go with your girlfriends and bring blankets or chairs and enjoy free concert.
Coffee Shop
Ever notice why Panera is always packed with a bunch of girls? Yup, it’s because nothing is more fun than chit chatting with your girlfriends over a cup of coffee and snack. Another idea for me to consider!
I thank all my blogger friends for coming up with these ideas. One thing that I do realize is that it gets a lot easier to have girls day out as the kids get older… at least once they are in school. :)

Great article, we featured it and Tweeted it from the Mom Blog Network. Girl’s just want to have fun after all, and how much better is it if it’s free.
