Last weekend my hubby and I decided to go to the gallery hop at Short North for our date night. My sister-in-law came over to babysit our son. We decided to have dinner at Kaya since we have a buy one get one free coupon from entertainment.com. My Korean co-worker was raving about it, so I knew it had to be really good.
Kaya is located conveniently between Henderson and Reed Rd. Unlike most Korean restaurant here in Columbus, Kaya offers BBQ table where you grill your own meat on a propane gas stove right in the middle of your table. This took me back down memory lane, the time my dad used to take us to this kind of restaurants in the weekend. It really is a fun place to have a get-together dinner with a bunch of friends. The place is a bit small but very clean and cozy. The price is pretty pricey compare to other Korean restaurants. The Bulgogi I ordered costs $18.95, almost $5.00 more than usual. The staff is quite professional.
Since it was just the two of us, we decided to skip the grilling and ordered two entrees. As usual I ordered Bulgogi (BBQ beef) and my husband ordered Seafood Bim Bim Bap (rice mix with spicy sauce, shrimp, squid, octopus, and cooked in a hot plate). Service was pretty quick although we were hoping they would serve the traditional Korean side dishes first (we were really hungry at the time). Unfortunately, everything came together at the same time. The side dishes were quite a lot for two entrees we ordered. We had Kim Chi, bean sprout, fish cake, mashed potatoes, potatoes with sweet sauce, pickles, omelet, among other things. By the time we finished with the side dishes, I was half way full before even touching my Bulgogi. I love the Bulgogi and my husband’s Seafood Bim Bim Bap was yummy.

Do I recommend this place? It’s kind of a yes and no. Although the taste, service and everything else are great, I just don’t think they are equal to the price. Next time I go to Kaya Korean Grill, I will probably bring some friends and grill some Korean BBQ meat on our table. If I just want to eat plain Korean food, I would go somewhere else cheaper.
