Garage Makeover

So what would a wife do when the husband left with their oldest son on vacay for two weeks, leaving her and the two year old behind?  Why, of course she started drilling the wall!  I swear to God ever since I understand the concept of wall anchor and know how to use a drill, I kept on thinking to myself…. hmmmm where else can I drill?

My garage had been transformed three times within the past 3 years.  I was so upset I couldn’t find the original picture of the messy garage.  I took the picture using my old digital camera because at the time I had BlackBerry with a crappy camera.  Now I lost the USB drive!!  So upsetting!!!

So about three years ago my dear husband built this for me:

He installed Gladiator GarageWorks GearTrack Channels ,  some Gladiator Utility Hooks , and a Gladiator GarageWorks Vertical Bike Hook for my son’s bicycle.  Our bikes are too heavy and we were thinking of using a Ceiling-Mounted Bike Lift .  He also installed the Container Store Elfa shelving unit on the left side.  As you can see, this garage organization system worked three years ago.  We were able to hang and store most of the stuffs we owned back then so that we can park both our cars in the garage.

The only things we had on the floor were my husband’s and my bikes, a wheelbarrow, my son’s ride-on, and a wagon (facing the right side of the wall behind the freestanding shelf).  Note my child bike was sitting on the floor because he was just playing with it.

Well, one more child later and a million shoes and toys later, stuffs started to pile up again.  Unfortunately I forgot to take the before pictures, but this is the after.

Left wall:

On this left side of the wall, I added two hooks to hang a big ladder.  Underneath the ladder is where the lawn mower usually sits.  I figured the area above it was a dead space, so I decided to utilize it to hang ladder.  Then I had an unused ventilated shelf that was used to be in my office (read my office transformation ), so I installed it between the existing Elfa shelving unit and the ladder hooks as an additional storage.

The front wall:

During the initial makeover, we figured our garage is too small to add two bike hoist, so I added two more Gladiator GarageWorks GearTrack Channels at the bottom of the existing ones, and added more Gladiator Utility Hooks and a couple Gladiator Big Hooks .  Voila!!  Everything is hung in nice and neat.

The best thing is, I did this whole thing all by myself!  I know it still looks like we have a lot of stuffs and I ran out of space to hang my bike, but the good news is the majority of the big items in this garage will be gone within the next year or two.  I could see we’ll get rid of the buggy car and wagon next year.  The Little Tikes Police Car and the bike trailer will be gone in two years.

Now I can’t help but thinking what my next project would be. 😉
