I finally finished transforming my office into an office/guest bedroom. I started this project sometimes in early January and it has taken most of my time. I haven’t been blogging as much as I would like. I haven’t even made a list of “New Year’s Wishlist” yet. I have to say it was extremely overwhelming at first, especially during decluttering stage. You have no idea how much crap we accumulated over the years. Anyway, without further ado, this is the before and after.
The Before
I sold the gigantic Billy Bookcase from IKEA on craigslist for $150, moved the shelving next to the desk into my oldest son’s bedroom, moved my oldest son’s bookshelf into the nursery, and moved the gray shelving from the nursery back into my office (see the after picture). That gray shelving unit used to be in the office, but I moved it temporary into the nursery after my baby was born.
The After
A simple furniture relocation along with a neutral fresh coat of paint is the cheapest way of staging your home.
The Before Closet
Through lots of decluttering and thanks to Elfa shelving system from the Container Store, I turned that messy closet into this:
The After Closet
I’m extremely happy with the result. Did I mention I installed the Elfa shelving unit myself without anybody’s help? I also did the painting myself. The only thing I didn’t do was building the daybed. I called two of my friends to help out and I made them lunch.
Overall I think I did a really good job. Next might be the kitchen remodeling, but obviously this one I would hire a contractor.
