Right before I left work, I turned around and found my boss sitting on his chair looking a bit disoriented. I asked if everything OK. He said he just heard a bad news. At first he was going to tell me and my co-workers, but then handed over his phone, “Here, just read this. I can’t even say”. Turns out his brother, who has been battling with Leukemia, was given only two weeks to live by his doctor. I couldn’t stay any longer because I had to get my kids. After expressing my sympathy, I took off as he told my co-workers about the situation.
As I was driving home, I couldn’t help but thinking…. What if I’m only given two weeks to live? What do I want to do?
Maybe travelling to Bora Bora? I heard they have a beautiful resort with private cottages that sits in the middle of seaside. I’m sure it’s the perfect place for me and my husband, but what am I going to do with the kids?
Taking the kids to Kidzania? Kidzania is like the biggest “Pretend Play” park you can ever imagine. It’s very famous in Asia but I guess not so much here. The closest one is perhaps in Mexico City. But then it’ll be too chaotic and I won’t get to spend enough time with the kids.
Flying my parents and brothers here? Perhaps, but then again… too chaotic trying to accommodate visitors from out of the country.
Then I realized, if I’m only given 2 weeks to live…. all I want is spending quality time with the people I love.
Going to the zoo… flying kite… biking and picnic in the park….movie night with popcorn and blankie….
and when I’m alone, I want to write a memoir to my hubby to say what I feel (clearly I’m a better writer than a speaker).
But if I’m given two years to live, I might have a longer list:
- Quit my job and do volunteer work
- Go home and visit my family, eat my favorite food and most importantly…mom’s cooking
- Take the kids to Disney Cruise
- Travel to Bora Bora with my husband
- Visit Seattle and reminiscing the old days, the house and apartment I used to live in, the school I used to go to, tulip festival, German Town
- Travel to Europe
- Go to Lady Gaga concert
- Meeting Rachel Zoe… such a big fan!
