A part of my 2013 New Year’s Resolution and Wishlist was to revamp my blog that was abandoned for two years after having my second child. I hired a freelancer to upgrade my WordPress, purchased a Genesis Framework theme that has been fully search engine optimized, and more importantly, have started to blog regularly. You can have the best blog design ever but if you don’t blog and write a good quality content, it’s going to be a big waste. I’m pretty happy that I have doubled up my traffic compare to two years ago. Needless to say, I still have a long way to go in reaching my goal since:
- I don’t get as many offers from the PR company as I did in the past
- I also haven’t gotten writing gig. Things are just not as easy as it was in the past
Although things have not been easy, I continue to blog and deliver useful information to my readers…simply because that’s my passion! I figure things will fall into my lap one day, when this blog finally goes to the next level.
In the mean time, I couldn’t help but thinking about what else can I do to monetize my blog? That’s when I decided to open an online store. I have to say, looking back to my past I had many doubts about opening up another online store. Yet this is something that keeps coming back in my mind. What can I sell and How do I sell? After researching and researching and researching, I came up with these criteria about the business:
- No inventory
- Minimum start up cost
- Can be sold strictly online
- Products has to be related to my blog
- No more creating online store from scratch. In other words, the company I will be joining or working with has to offer a basic storefront that is ready to use. Even though the profit will be much less as opposed to building an online store from scratch, I don’t have the time, energy and money to apply for vendor license number, shop for wholesalers, build a web store from scratch, and the whole nine yard
Having said that, I decided to join a Direct Selling company! *Gasp!!! The Direct Selling Company that I have joined met all the above criteria. Most importantly, you don’t need to do parties. Nowadays many Direct Selling Companies have moved away from throwing home parties and do online parties instead. Who has time for home parties these days?
So I’m super excited about this new opportunity and cannot wait to reveal what I have to offer to my readers. One thing that I know for sure… I’m a blogger first and foremost. The rest, whether selling an e-book or having an online store, will come second. This online store is still in the work-in-progress and I cannot wait to share it with all of you. So stay tuned!!
