Before I decided what I wanted to do in terms of choosing online selling as a method of monetizing my blog, I spent lots of time doing research. I read tons of books, tons of forums, tons of articles. For those of you who’s interested in earning extra income or working at home, wahm.com is a great resource. You get to connect with tons of work-at-home-moms in various profession, EBay sellers, direct selling, blogger, freelancer, etc. My first option was to join a Direct Selling company. Yes, Direct Selling aka MLM. I chose this business for the following reasons:
- I thought it has the lowest investment
- Can be done online depending on the kind of product you are selling (my first choice was candles)
- Offers a pretty decent commission (20 – 35%)
Direct Selling has come along way since Mary Kay era. The newer Direct Selling companies:
- Don’t really focus on recruiting, unlike its predecessor.
- They don’t ask you to spend thousands of dollars in inventory
- Some companies even limit its downline to avoid pyramid scheme
I picked candle business because it’s the easiest product to sell without throwing parties. As a full time working mom of two and a blogger, I really don’t have time to do parties. In addition to that, I figured I could promote my blog by giving away candles.
Right before I signed up, someone from wahm.com forum mentioned about this party favor and baby gifts company. Basically it works just like any Direct Selling, but no downline needed. In other words, you don’t need to recruit. You pay a couple hundred dollars for the initial investment, basically to get your own website. You promote your stores, people start shopping, and they will handle the payment, shipping and handling, and customer service. You will get commission from selling their products. The reason I picked this company is because I love throwing parties for my boys. I also love to entertain people. Every time I throw parties, I post it on my blog and get pretty good traffic. So I thought this is more in line with my blog. Remember, blogging first, the rest will come seconds.
