If you want to earn income from your blog, you have to treat it like a business. There are many tips on how to promote your blog online. However, promoting your blog offline is just as important as it is online. These are five proven tips on how to promote your blog offline:
1. The Good ‘Ol Fashion “Word of Mouth”
Perhaps you engage in a conversation and someone ask what you’ve been doing lately, you may simply answer that you’ve been blogging lately. I found some bloggers who don’t want to tell their family and friends about their blog. As long as you keep it professional, I don’t see why you can’t tell the world about your blog.
Joining a meetup group that is within your niche might help promoting your blog. For example, if your blog is about healthy eating you might want to join a meetup group about diet and exercise.
2. Dropping Business Cards
There are a lot of restaurants or businesses that collect business cards and most of them even do drawings where the winner gets free products or services they sell. This is a good opportunity to promote your blog. Not only it gives you a shot to win something, you might develop a relationship with the business owner. Who knows, they might contact you to rent an ad space or simply pay you to write about their business.
3. Networking with Business Owners at Local Events
Since my blog is about women’s lifestyle, I’ve attended various kids product related events as well as home based business events here in my town. I simply went around each booth, introduced myself that I’m a blogger, and again, handed over my business cards. I’ve developed two way relationship with some of them where they listed my blog on their website and I would write something about their business in return. These business owners love bloggers. For them, having relationship with a blogger is the cheapest and most useful marketing ever.
4. Becoming a Sponsor
Consider becoming a sponsor of local charity events or festivals within your niche. Typically in the Summer there are tons of festivals throughout the communities. The organizer of these type of events are always on the look for sponsors. Usually the fees to become a sponsor is much cheaper than renting a booth. You can promote your blog by ordering
custom promotional pens
with your blog name on it, or
custom envelopes
with your blog name and put some promotional inserts in it, such as postcards, business cards or brochures. People love free products. I don’t remember how many times I received
promotional pens
at local events, that really caught my eye and ended up checking up the businesses online. In addition, becoming a sponsor is a way to give back to the community.
5. Sending Media Kit
Once you feel that you have gained enough traffic on your blog, you should consider sending media kit to businesses within your niche and offer an ad space. Make sure you have something to proof that your blog is well-suited for these businesses to invest. Be ready to provide your stat numbers (number of unique visitors, followers, tweets, etc), because these are the factors that the businesses are looking for.
