A part of my mission this year is to declutter my house by getting rid of hubby’s dvds. My husband used to collect DVDs and he has hundreds of them. After doing some research, here’s what I’m planning to do:
Used DVD stores
I visited an online used DVD stores such as secondspin.com, eversave.com to see how much these DVDs are worth. All I had to do is keying in the UPC code, and it gives me how much they are willing to pay. On top of that they reimburse you for the shipping as long as you use media mail. I gotta tell ya, that was a lot of data entry! Anything that’s worth over $1, I sold them.
First shipment
Well guess what? Most of my hubby’s DVDs are not worth that much. That leads me into the next step.
EBay
Any DVDs that are worth less than $1, I auctioned them individually on EBay. EBay has free listing for up to 50 DVDs each month. That means if your item doesn’t sell, you don’t have to pay for anything. All I have to say is God Bless Smartphone! I used EBay apps and all I had to do is scan the barcode and it automatically populates the item description and pictures. Some DVDs that are really old, the stock images are not available. In this case I had to take the picture myself, again using my smartphone.
My current office
Although it seems pretty easy, it’s still a lot of work. The problem is your item will be most likely sold at $0.99. After shipping and handling, you won’t make much. That leads me to the next step.
Sell in bulk
I haven’t quite started this step yet, so I can’t really say how successful this method is. But after listing 48 single DVDs and only 12 were sold, not mentioning purchasing the shipping supplies and gas money to the post office, selling in bulk on EBay would be my last resort.
So far I’ve earned:
Secondspin.com – $230 for a total of 200+ DVDs
EBay – $50 for a total of 18 DVDs
However I got 2 non paying buyer, and after all the time I’ve spent listing and doing shipping and handling, I’m not selling any single DVDs anymore on EBay.

Now my biggest issue is getting rid of all the sealed ones. Did I mention my husband has about a hundred of them? Any suggestion?
