First Day of School, A Big Milestone for My 6 Yr Old

My oldest son is a first grader!  What a huge milestone I felt.  Both my kids spent most of their earlier years in life in a daycare, and I never had a problem droping them off.  For me, dropping the of at daycare is like pulling a band- aid; you just do it really quick.  However, somethimg about the school and the way they treat the kids made me realized that my child was forced to act like a big boy now.

On the first day of school, my husband and I took him to the bus stop.  I didn’t realize it was an assigned seat, so I didn’t warn him anything.  Sure enough I watched him walking down the aisle and not being able to find his seat.  I saw him going to the bus driver and asked where he’s supposed to sit.  The bus driver then showed him where he’s supposed to be.  That was a big step for him considering how shy he normally is.

Then my husband and I drove to school to meet him when he got out of the bus.  I misread the bus number, long story short we couldn’t find him.  My son couldn’t come to the open house, so he didn’t know where his class is or what his teacher looks like.  We asked the PTO ladies and they basically told me he’ll find his way in eventually.   I was like… really?  I lost my child and you told me to just circling around the building?  Finally we saw him walking into the building and asked the lady where he’s supposed to be.  We ended taking him to his class and everything was all good.

Another big milestone for him, being able to ask when he needs to.  For those of you who know hI’m personally,  normally he wouldn’t have done that.

My baby is growing up so fast…. I think I took it pretty hard.  Before I know it… next will be graduation and wedding.  Right now I’m just enjoying my time with him… one day at a time.
